      Scope of Work

The City’s Public Works Department is embarking on a multi-year project to assess the condition of the City’s sanitary sewer system, one of several proactive initiatives to ensure the long-term serviceability of this critical infrastructure. Under contract with the City, Downstream Services, Inc. will perform closed circuit television (CCTV) inspection for sewers in 4 of the City’s 12 Maintenance Districts. Sewer lines will be cleaned prior to inspection and the contractor will provide full documentation of the inspection work including both video footage and electronic pipeline inspection reports per the scope of services.

      Project Status

Phase 2 of the project is scheduled to begin mid-May 2024 barring unforeseen circumstances. Phase 1 of the project was completed November 2023. Phase 2 is expected to conclude by June 30, 2025. Phase 3 is scheduled to start upon the conclusion of Phase Two.

      Project Schedule

Over 3 phases of approximately the same amount of inspection work, the City intends to survey the majority of its sanitary sewer system infrastructure. At a rate of one phase per fiscal year, it will take 3 years to complete the project.

      Project Update

Contractor crews are expected to embark on Phase 2 of the project in May 2024 and will target approximately 831,627 lineal feet of sewer main in 4 of the City’s 12 Maintenance Districts. See project location map below.

      • District No. 6 – North of Mountain St, West of the Glendale Freeway (2) (scheduled Sept. 30, 2024 to January 1, 2025)
      • District No. 9 - North of the Ventura Freeway (134), West of North Brand Blvd, East of Grandview Avenue

      • District No. 10 – North of San Fernando Road, West of Grandview Avenue

      • District No. 12 – North of Markridge Road, West of Rosemont Ave (completed Sept. 27, 2024)

City staff is reviewing the findings from completed inspections and using the information to plan capital improvement projects and assess modifications to maintenance activities.  The City would like to thank residents and visitors to these areas who may have been inconvenienced during the course of the project. The information gained will help guide repair and maintenance decisions in these areas well into the future.

      Traffic Impacts

If you live in one of the Districts scheduled for assessment you may notice contractor vehicles and equipment in your neighborhood. During the project, traffic may need to be reduced temporarily to a single lane or closed for brief periods to facilitate the work. Please check the City’s webpage and social media portals for the latest information.
